I've seen a lot of DIY projects for speaker stands that look cool until you realize that you can just go out there and buy something exactly like it even though the items are intended for other purposes and aren't sold at Serious Dude Audio. They tend not to be all that cheap on the internet (who wants to ship concrete?) but since they're somewhat seasonal in real life, you can often find them at rock bottom prices, especially ones with dings on one side that wouldn't be visible in-doors placed near a wall.ġ2" and you're down to candle holder/planter/riser categories but as long as you know what the categories are, it's not hard to find stuff. are pretty hefty and under priced compared to stuff made out of other materials or for other purposes. I'm not a stickler for "isolation" given that powered monitors are fairly robust AND small - I think stick-on foam-rubber feet are fine, but that's just me - but one avenue for cheap speaker stands is actually garden supply stores: concrete and ceramic columns/pedestals/plinths/etc. Keep your eyes peeled on Slick Deals, too:
When they're at list price, however, you might as well get a budget Rythmik or a scratch/dent SVS.įry's, if you get their email coupon, typically has a solid deal on a sub of some sort every week, although they lean hard on Polk and Klipsch, neither of which are popular around here, but may have preferable aesthetics in your setup.
OTOH, their SKU range has atrophied lately so there's not much actual choice, but the 260P is still a solid buy if you can get it for $180 or so the JBLs are generally best in class for the price when you can get them on sale like that. JBL has good sales during random american holidays (4th of july, father's day, etc.) so about every two or three months or so there's a fairly good deal. I'd probably pick a smaller monoprice sub none of their non-monoliths play tremendously low so the 12" just gets sloppier at doing the same thing, as far as I've read, anyway.
